Poker refers to a family of several card games based on betting and trying to make the best hand from predefined rankings.  Before a hand begins there is generally a forced bet, either in the form of an ante which is paid by all players at the table, or a forced bet may be in the form of a small blind and a big blind, who sit left of the dealer.  These forced bets guarantee that every hand will have a pot, and will be worth winning.
